Some of the most closely watched names in investing now say the AI boom that has lifted your retirement account could be close to popping.
Their warnings land as oil jumps on fears of new strikes on Iran and borrowing costs climb back toward their highest level since 2002, the exact pressures they say could tip the market over.
Here's the market news worth knowing today.
Is the AI Stock Bubble About to Burst?
The AI rally has a growing list of doubters, and they are no longer fringe voices.
Bridgewater founder Ray Dalio called AI a classic bubble on Wednesday, saying it is nearing the point where it bursts as interest rates rise and more of the build-out is paid for with debt.
Panmure Liberum strategist Joachim Klement went further, warning the AI trade could unravel as soon as 2027 and drag the S&P 500 down to 5,000, about 36% below today, in what he says could be the worst crash since 2008.
That matters because a handful of AI giants now make up a huge slice of the index funds in most retirement accounts, so when they fall, almost everyone feels it.
Klement admits his call may be early, but the people calling the top are getting louder.
Why Are Oil Prices Jumping Again?
The relief at the pump from earlier this week is already fading.
Brent crude jumped more than 4% to above $104 a barrel after a report that the Pentagon is preparing options for strikes on Iran challenged hopes that President Trump would hold off before next month's midterm elections.
Higher oil feeds straight into gas, diesel and grocery prices, and it piles more pressure on a Fed that raised rates last month and still expects to do it again.
For anyone driving to work or heating a home this winter, the Iran headlines now matter as much as anything on Wall Street.
Why Are Stocks Pulling Back From Record Highs?
Wall Street's record run has hit its first real speed bump of the month.
The S&P 500 posted its first losing day of October on Wednesday, a day after a record close, and futures pointed lower again Thursday as the 10-year Treasury yield climbed back to around 5.34%.
Higher borrowing costs make every future dollar of profit worth less today, which hits the most expensive stocks hardest, the same AI names the bubble warnings are aimed at.
PepsiCo reports today and Delta on Friday, and their outlooks will show whether companies can carry these costs.
