The UN Security Council will hold its AI and international security briefing at 3:00 p.m. ET today, bringing executives from OpenAI, Anthropic and Hugging Face into a forum normally focused on threats between nations.

Sam Altman is expected to argue for common ways to measure what powerful AI systems can do and whether safeguards are keeping pace.

That matters as AI becomes better at writing software, finding vulnerabilities and acting with less human supervision.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham says Britain will create a National Centre for Information Defence to disrupt hostile-state information campaigns, while using its 2027 G20 presidency to push for common global AI principles and standards.

Burnham said Russian agencies have used bots, fake websites and falsified articles to influence public opinion, warning that AI could multiply the threat.

The same tools can make fake videos, cloned voices and personalised scams cheaper to produce, making it harder to know whether a message from a bank, employer or family member is genuine.
