If you own Bitcoin, one of the industry's best-known researchers wants you preparing for the possibility that AI cracks the math protecting it, and sooner than most expected.

It lands alongside a damning ChatGPT teen safety test and a $90 billion AI chip borrowing spree.

Here's everything you need to know today.

Could AI Break Bitcoin Within Months?

Yesterday's AI math breakthrough has become today's security scare.

Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake has urged the industry to calmly plan for "bunker mode", moving funds to fresh wallet addresses in case AI cracks the code protecting most Bitcoin accounts, possibly within months in the worst case.

Responding to Drake, Vitalik Buterin backed taking the risk seriously but warned against rushing to move funds:

Bitcoin slipped below $83,000, and similar math secures much of the internet, so this matters even if you have never owned a digital asset.

Nothing has been broken yet, but the planning has started.

Why Is ChatGPT for Teens Rated an Unacceptable Risk?

OpenAI promised parents a safer ChatGPT for teenagers in August, and an independent test says it falls short.

Common Sense Media's Youth AI Safety Institute rated ChatGPT for Teens an Unacceptable Risk after more than 4,000 test prompts.

On new parent-linked accounts, testers discussed self-harm and suicidal thoughts for up to an hour without a single alert reaching the parent.

OpenAI says the tests do not reflect how its safeguards work in practice.

The group wants ChatGPT limited to adults until the gaps are fixed.

For any parent or grandparent, a safety setting is only as good as its alerts.

Why Are AI Companies Borrowing $90 Billion for Chips?

The AI boom has grown so expensive that its biggest players are now borrowing to keep up.

Broadcom is arranging more than $50 billion in financing for the chip it is building with OpenAI, SpaceX is seeking about $40 billion for Nvidia chips, and Oracle is in talks to fund its own chip purchase.

When this much AI spending runs on debt, any slowdown spreads further, from the chipmakers in your index fund to the lenders behind them.

The money is still flowing, but more of it is now borrowed.

The AI Race Now Runs on Borrowed Billions. The Winners Are Being Picked Today.

Tech giants are hunting $90 billion in AI chip debt this week, and moments like this are often when the next big winners quietly take shape.
