The AI race is entering a much bigger phase.

Apple is building a special AI model for China, Anthropic could spend billions buying another AI company, and Wall Street is figuring out how to finance an unprecedented expansion of AI infrastructure.

Here’s what you need to know today.

Apple Has Built a Special AI Model for China

Apple is taking an unusual step to compete in one of the world’s biggest technology markets.

The company has trained its own large AI model specifically for China with support from Alibaba.

A large language model is the technology behind AI systems capable of understanding and generating text.

Apple reportedly plans to use both its own model and Alibaba’s Qwen technology as it prepares to launch Apple Intelligence in China.

The strategy matters because foreign AI services face strict restrictions in the country.

Apple has also been losing ground to Chinese smartphone companies such as Huawei.

Getting Apple Intelligence into China could therefore become an important part of Apple’s attempt to make the iPhone more competitive again.

Anthropic Could Spend Billions Buying an AI Startup

One of the world’s biggest AI companies may be preparing for a major acquisition.

Anthropic is in talks to acquire Nvidia-backed startup Decart AI.

Bloomberg has valued the potential transaction at around $6 billion.

Decart develops AI technology capable of generating interactive digital environments in real time.

A deal would give Anthropic another way to expand beyond the Claude chatbot while competition between the biggest AI labs intensifies.

Goldman Is Looking for Investors for Nvidia’s $500 Billion AI Bet

The amount of money required to keep the AI boom growing is becoming enormous.

Goldman Sachs is talking with insurers, banks and asset managers about helping finance Nvidia’s planned $500 billion AI infrastructure initiative.

The plan is designed to bring huge amounts of outside capital into data centers and computing infrastructure powered by Nvidia chips.

Nvidia could itself backstop as much as $125 billion of the financing.

The bigger idea is important for investors.

Instead of technology companies funding every new AI data center themselves, Wall Street could increasingly treat AI computing infrastructure as an investable asset.

That could unlock another enormous pool of money for the AI boom.

If $500 Billion Is Entering AI, Where Does the Money Go Next?

The biggest opportunities may not be the companies everyone is already watching.

The risk is that by the time the next winners become obvious, much of the opportunity may already be gone.
