Wall Street is pulling in two directions today.

Oil is pushing back towards $100 a barrel, the Dow Jones is down more than 500 points and traders are bracing for inflation data that could reshape the Federal Reserve's next move.

Yet Intel has surged nearly 9%, Oracle is climbing ahead of earnings and Tesla is trying to recover from last week's Cybercab selloff.

Here’s the market news worth knowing today.

Why Is the Dow Jones Falling More Than 500 Points Today?

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 519 points, or 0.97%, at 52,895 by late morning in New York, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq were also lower.

Brent crude moved close to $100 a barrel after fresh attacks on Saudi energy facilities raised fears that the U.S.-Iran conflict could further disrupt supplies.

Higher oil can feed into inflation, while the 10-year Treasury yield was hovering near 4.8%, making bonds more attractive relative to stocks.

Markets now face the Producer Price Index on Thursday and Consumer Price Index on Friday.

Traders were pricing roughly a 58% chance of a September rate hike by late morning, so hotter inflation could put even more pressure on stocks.

Why Is Intel Stock Surging Nearly 9%?

Intel is moving sharply against the broader market.

Shares jumped as much as 8.65% after a report said the chipmaker could raise PC processor prices by another 10% in early October.

Supply-chain sources say rising component costs and strong demand for certain processors are giving Intel more pricing power.

The company is also reportedly prioritising higher-margin server chips as AI data-centre demand strains supply.

For shareholders, higher prices could improve margins at a company still rebuilding profitability.

But Intel has not formally confirmed the October increase, meaning part of today’s rally is based on expectations rather than an official announcement.

Why Is Oracle Stock Rising Before Earnings?

Oracle shares climbed more than 3% as investors positioned for earnings on September 10.

Its previous quarter showed cloud infrastructure revenue jumping 93% to $5.8 billion, while remaining performance obligations reached $638 billion.

That backlog has made Oracle one of Wall Street’s most closely watched AI infrastructure companies.

The risk is spending.

Oracle generated negative $23.7 billion in free cash flow during fiscal 2026 as it invested heavily in data centres and computing capacity.

Thursday’s report will show whether that huge AI demand is turning into growth fast enough to justify the bill.

Why Is Tesla Stock Trying to Bounce Back?

Tesla shares moved higher on Tuesday after falling nearly 6% on Friday following the Cybercab launch.

U.S. safety regulators have opened an investigation into Tesla’s self-certification of the Cybercab, which has no steering wheel or pedals.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is examining whether Tesla properly determined that the vehicle meets federal safety standards.

That matters because autonomous transport is central to Tesla’s future story.

If Cybercab can scale quickly, Tesla moves further beyond selling cars and towards a recurring transport business.

If regulation slows the rollout, that future could take much longer to reach.

Wall Street Is Splitting Between Fear and Opportunity

Today’s market shows how quickly money can move even when the major indexes are falling.

Oil and rate fears are hurting the Dow, while investors are still chasing companies tied to major technology shifts.
