OpenAI has now published what it says is a solution to one of mathematics' most famous unsolved problems, along with a computer-checked version of the proof.
If it survives scrutiny, the result could mark a historic moment for both mathematics and AI.
Google is also warning that Chinese-linked hackers are running AI inside stolen networks, while New York City is restricting student-facing AI across hundreds of schools.

OpenAI Publishes a $1 Million Math Proof: Did AI Actually Solve It?
OpenAI has now made its claimed Navier-Stokes breakthrough public.
The company says an internal AI system produced a proof showing that smooth fluid motion can develop a singularity, effectively a mathematical breakdown, in finite time.
OpenAI published both the written proof and a Lean formalisation, a computer-checked version designed to verify each logical step.
The scale is extraordinary.
OpenAI says roughly 10,000 AI agents worked concurrently on the problem, sending 2.7 million messages and producing around 130 billion output tokens.
The agents reached the result after about 88 hours, followed by another 17 hours of Lean formalisation and verification using GPT-6 Astra.
OpenAI also says the internal model behind the work is "significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra" and is still being trained.
But the $1 million prize has not been awarded.
Clay still lists Navier-Stokes as unsolved, and its prize rules require a proposed solution to be published in a qualifying outlet, wait at least two years and gain general acceptance from mathematicians before it can be considered.
OpenAI says it does not intend to claim the prize.
So the proof is no longer hidden.
The next question is whether mathematicians agree that AI really solved it.
Chinese Hackers Are Running AI on Stolen Networks: Why Is That Dangerous?
Google says a China-linked espionage group it tracks as UNC6508 has compromised cloud environments and installed local AI models inside them.
The group has targeted academic, medical and military research organisations in North America, including proprietary AI research.
By running an open model on compromised infrastructure, the hackers can use a victim's computing power while avoiding monitoring from commercial AI services.
Google says attackers are also moving towards AI systems that can scan targets, troubleshoot problems and automate parts of an attack.
That could leave defenders much less time to react.
New York City AI School Rules: What Changes for Students?
New York City has introduced a one-year moratorium on student-facing generative AI for children from 2-K through eighth grade.
The policy affects nearly 600,000 students, while companion chatbots are prohibited across all grades.
High school students will instead receive two 45-minute AI literacy modules each year, while controlled AI pilots will be limited to a maximum of 50,000 students.
Schools are no longer deciding only whether students used AI for homework.
They are now deciding when children should be allowed to interact with these systems at all.
