A single hacker spent about $5,000 to let AI agents break into more than 100 company websites, and the instructions fit in fewer than 100 Chinese characters.
With so much happening in AI, we have narrowed it to the three stories that matter most for your security, your savings and your portfolio: the AI-powered hacking spree, OpenAI’s race to raise $30 billion, and Amazon’s move against Nvidia.
Let’s start with the break-ins, because they show how little it now takes.
How Did a Hacker Use AI Agents to Breach 100+ Company Websites?
The AI agents involved are commercially available, which is what makes this different.
A researcher at NorForge watched a hacker break into more than 100 company websites, including ones tied to tractor maker Deere, appliance firm SharkNinja and engine maker Cummins.
The hacker gave the agents a short instruction and left them to work, and each successful break-in took roughly 23 hours with almost no human involvement.
Deere says it found no sign sensitive data was accessed, and it is unclear how much, if any, was taken.
The agents mostly went after online stores, the kind of site where you type in a card number, so a campaign this cheap and automatic is a reminder to watch your card statements.
At about $50 a break-in, hacking just got a lot cheaper.
Why Is OpenAI Racing to Raise $30 Billion Before Anthropic’s IPO?
Building AI is expensive, and OpenAI is racing to pay for it.
OpenAI is rushing to line up about $30 billion at a valuation above $1.4 trillion, up from $852 billion in March.
The timing is the story. Anthropic is expected to list its shares in mid-November, and OpenAI wants its money locked in before Anthropic’s financial disclosures invite side-by-side comparisons.
Some investors have already pushed Anthropic to accept a listing value of about $1.5 trillion rather than the $2 trillion it wants, after its quarterly numbers missed some expectations.
Both are heading for the stock market, so if you invest through an index fund, how they are priced will shape the AI trade in your portfolio.
Two trillion-dollar AI companies courting the same investors is new, and the race is already on.
What Is Amazon’s TorchNeuron? How It Challenges Nvidia’s AI Chip Lead
Nvidia’s biggest advantage is not a chip, it is a habit, and Amazon just tried to break it.
Amazon launched TorchNeuron, free open-source software that lets developers run code written in PyTorch, which most AI developers use, on Amazon’s own Trainium chips with a single setting change and no rewriting.
Nvidia has spent more than a decade building Cuda, the software that makes AI code run well on its chips, and that lock-in is what Amazon is trying to erode.
Amazon says more than 30 early customers are using it and that switching can bring steep cost savings.
If you own an index fund, you own Nvidia, and every big customer that finds a cheaper route to AI chips is a question mark over its growth.
It follows Microsoft’s new chip last week, and Big Tech’s message to Nvidia is getting harder to miss.
AI Is a $1.4 Trillion Race Now. The Early Money Is Already Moving.
A hacker’s $5,000 bill, OpenAI’s $30 billion round and Amazon’s move on Nvidia all landed in one week, and by the time a shift like this feels obvious, the early money has usually already moved.
