Will applying for a loan affect my credit score?

No. Applying for a loan with Future Finance will not affect your credit score.

We do a ‘soft’ credit check at the application stage to better understand your credit history and give you the best offer we can. This check will not impact your credit score or be visible to other lenders.

Can I take out a loan?

We specialise in fair and flexible loans for students whether you are an undergraduate actively studying or a graduate making the first steps in your career.

All you need to apply for a loan with us is to:

  • Be enrolled in an accredited UK university or eligible institution
  • Be 18 years of age or above
  • Be a resident of the UK (or be an international student enrolled in an accredited UK university or eligible institution).
  • Meet our lending criteria

I already have a Government loan, can I apply?

Of course!

We believe that a government loan should be every student’s number one choice when it comes to funding their education. However, we also know that in some cases, these loans are inaccessible or do not provide the amount that you need to complete your studies. This is where we come in.

How can I spend my loan?

Any way that you want. You can use the money to pay your tuition fees, put it towards your living expenses or you can use it to fund both.

If you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to study abroad during your course, you can also use your loan to cover your time outside the UK.

When do I have to start repaying my loan?

Your first repayment will start a month after you receive your funds.

We know that you may not be earning, or earning as much, while you are studying, so depending on your loan amount we keep these payments as low as £5 per month. We don’t expect full monthly repayments until three months after your graduation date giving you plenty of time to make your next move after uni.

We will give you a full break-down of expected repayments with your loan offer so you can make sure that we are the perfect fit for your needs and expectations.

I am an international student, can I apply?

Yes you can.

All we ask is that:
  • You are over 18 years of age
  • You are a resident in the UK and enrolled in an accredited UK university or eligible institution
  • You can provide a UK-based guarantor for your loan (if required)

I have been asked to be a guarantor. What does this mean?

Simply put a guarantor is a parent, friend, sibling or close relative that agrees to take legal responsibility for any debt that incurs as a result of loan defaults.

For friends and family, this is a great way to help students fund their education without having to provide finance themselves. If you would like to find out more about what it means to be a Guarantor please contact us on 020 3743 8700.

Do I meet your requirements as a guarantor?

In order to qualify as a guarantor, all we ask is that you:

  • Are 25 to 70 years of age
  • Are a UK resident (or have an indefinite leave to remain Visa)
  • Have a minimum of 12 months income history
  • Agree to a credit check
  • Meet the income and credit history criteria specific to the individual loan application

We do not require guarantors to be homeowners.

What information do you need from me?

On being nominated as a guarantor, we will look for the following information from you:

  • Your date of birth
  • Your address
  • Your home phone number
  • Employment and debt details
  • A certified copy of your passport
  • Proof of income
  • Consent for us to run a credit check and employment verifications

We also ask that you disclose whether or not you are acting as a guarantor for any other loans.

When will I be contacted?

We are committed to making our loan process as simple as possible and will not contact you unless absolutely necessary. We will reach out to you to confirm that you are happy to act as a guarantor and we will also follow-up if we have any questions during the review process. When the loan is funded, we will let you know via email.

From this point, we will only be in touch when necessary and to update you on key information.

How do I provide my information?

When you are nominated as a guarantor, we will send you an email and provide you access to a secure page to enter your personal details. We do not share this information with the borrower.

Can I get a graduate loan?

Sure! We simply ask that you are:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • A resident in the UK and have a UK bank account (to receive the loan)
  • A graduate from an accepted Higher Education Institution in the UK
  • In full-time employment
  • Able to meet our lending criteria

How do I apply?

Head to our Graduate Loans page and click ‘apply’ to send us an application. All you have to do is enter a few personal details and we will send you a loan offer tailored to your needs within five minutes.

Once you receive your offer, you will have two weeks to make your decision. But don’t worry if you need more time to decide, you are welcome to apply again after your offer expires.

Do you run a credit check on me when I apply?

We run a ‘soft’ credit check on all applications so that we understand your credit history and are able to give you the best rate on your loan.

But don’t worry! This check will not affect your credit score or be visible to other lenders.

How long will it take me to get approved?

We want to make this process as simple as possible so once you have your personal details to hand, the initial application should only take a few minutes. Once submitted, we can provide you with a conditional loan offer in a matter of minutes.

The sooner you provide us with all of the documents and information that we need the quicker we can process and approve your loan. Once approved, we aim to get the money to you within one business day of the loan being approved.

What documents do you need from me?

Once you have submitted an application and received a conditional loan offer, you will have your very own Future Finance account.

To see what documents we need to be able to approve the loan, login to your account and you will see the Documents section listing the documents we need from you. From here, you will be able to upload documents directly to your account.

Examples of the types of documents we may look for include a form of ID, proof of education or proof of employment.

How will I receive my funds?

We will send the money directly into your bank account within one business day of your loan being approved.

You will also get an email letting you know that the loan has been paid.
