Last week we’ve posted some general tips and tricks to survive exam week. This week we’ll take a closer look at how “Brainfood” can influence your performance.
First of all, what is Brainfood? Brainfoods are any food which contains nutrients that are known to aid brain function. Here are our top 5!
Avocados contain good fats, which help protect your brain and support blood flow. They contain vitamin E, potassium and vitamin K. In addition, they help you absorb antioxidants, which help your body get rid of harmful chemicals. Try to use Avocados as a spread instead of butter or mix cut them into cubes and mix with salads etc.
Blueberries are full of antioxidants, which protect your brain and help boost your concentration and memory for up to 5 hours. Blueberries are also known to improve the communication between neurons, improve memory, and reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Blueberries are great on their own, but you can mix things up by making smoothies with lots of other fruit.
Yes, you’ve heard right! Dark chocolate can help you push through exam time. Dark chocolate contains small amounts of caffeine, which make you more alert. What’s more, it contains magnesium and makes your body release endorphins, which support well-being. I think there is no need for recipes, chocolate is good as it is! Just don’t go overboard with consumption 🙂
Nuts have been a recommended snack for students for a long time. They contain omega 3, omega 6, vitamin B6 and vitamin E. All of these elements are important for your brain and nervous system. Also, nuts seem to have a long-term effect and are said to prevent cognitive decline. You can eat them on their own or mix them into salads or main courses or even have them in smoothies. Check this out for recipes.
This might be the obvious one, but it’s crazy how little we sometimes drink. It’s one of these things we like to forget about when not having a glass right in front of us. Make sure you always have some water in front of you and drink plenty while studying. It will help your head stay clear and keep you going. You are looking for more taste? Add lemons, cucumbers or mint!
